Workshop Guidelines

What is the goal of the workshop?

The workshop is intended to help authors receive feedback and improve their research.  We also hope the workshop will serve as a platform for scholarly exchange and community building.

How is the workshop organized?

Participants provide the hosts with a working paper title.  The hosts then  recruit 3-4 appropriate discussants for the session.

Where is the workshop held and how long does it last?

The workshops take place on Zoom and last for approximately 60-75 minutes.

What are the expectations for authors?

Authors should distribute their paper to the hosts and discussants at least seven days prior to the workshop date.  Working papers should be complete and reasonably polished.   Authors are not obliged to make a presentation during the session, though they are welcome to make some short (2-5 minute), introductory remarks, should they so choose.

What are the expectations for discussants?

Discussants should read the paper before the workshop and prepare constructive comments.  The format of the comments is up to the discussants, but as noted below, the workshop environment is informal and conversational.  Discussants are free to email technical, detailed and/or specialized comments to the authors.

What is the format of the workshop?  How does the discussion unfold?

The focus is discussant feedback and scholarly exchange.  Discussion is typically conversational in format and always supportive. The hosts will invite one of the discussants to launch our conversation by providing a brief set of comments.  The author is given an opportunity to respond.  We then open the floor for the other discussants and hosts to contribute.  The core of the workshop is this dialogue between authors, discussants, and hosts. Then the floor is opened for the other participants to contribute.
